Documentation

Description:
The Decision Maker Panel is a large and representative monthly online panel survey of businesses in the United Kingdom. It was established in 2016 and is run by the Bank of England in partnership with King’s College London and the University of Nottingham. It collects quantitative information from Chief Financial Officers about recent developments in business conditions and about expectations for the year ahead. The survey receives around 2,500 responses a month, on average. It covers private-sector and third-sector firms with at least ten employees across all industries and UK regions. The Decision Maker Panel contains regular questions on sales, prices, employment, wage and investment. These ask about developments over the past year and expectations for a year ahead, including about the distribution of expectations, which also allows measures of uncertainty to be constructed. The survey also includes special questions on topical issues. The DMP has been used to study the effects of several key events that have had significant economic impacts, such as Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the wider increase in inflation.
