An SMR00 is generated for outpatients receiving care in the specialties listed when: they attend a medical consultant outpatient clinic; they meet with a consultant or senior member of his/her team outwith an outpatient clinic session (including the patient"s home); they attend a clinic run by a nurse or an AHP identified as the Health Care Professional Responsible for Care for that clinic and who has legal and clinical responsibility for that patient. The dataset is generally fully complete and ready for analysis three month preceding the current date. So for example at the end of August, data is available until the end of May.

AGE_IN_YEARS

MONTH AND YEAR OF BIRTH

The biological characteristics that define humans as female, male or intersex.

Classifies the person according to their own perceived ethnic group and cultural background (Scotland Census).

ETHNIC_GROUP

The date on which a specific clinic session occurs (ddmmyy).

CLINIC_DATE

Division of medicine or dentistry covering a specific area of clinical activity.

SPECIALTY

A type of clinical facility which is identified for clinical and/or costing purposes.

SIGNIFICANT_FACILITY

Patient's status regarding payment for NHS services.

PATIENT_CATEGORY

Broad category of organisation and/or professionals who may make a referral, e.g. consultant in other provider unit, GP, self.

REFERRAL_SOURCE

The service requested for a patient who has been referred for care.

REFERRAL_TYPE

A health problem which occasioned a referral. This may be a definite diagnosis, an unconfirmed diagnosis or signs and symptoms.

The setting where contact between a Health Care Professional and a patient/carer takes place

MODE_OF_CLINICAL_INTERACTION

Episode level data from patients on new and follow up appointments at outpatient clinics in all specialities (except A&E and Genito-Urinary Medicine).
