The LLWR contains the following four datasets: the Learner (LN) dataset which includes information about the learner such as name, date of birth, ethnic origin and gender; the Learning Programme (LP) dataset which gives information about the current programme of learning being undertaken by the learner and any characteristics which may change over time; the Learning Activity (LA) dataset which collects data on the individual activities or courses undertaken by the learner on his/her programme of learning; and the Award (AW) dataset, which provides information on the awards for which the learner is entered and those achieved. From 1 August 2017, two new datasets will be added to collect Programme and Activity data directly from the National Centre for Learning Welsh. These new datasets relate specifically to the delivery of Welsh for Adults provision and will be collated and submitted centrally by the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

This field is derived from by double encryption after splitting demographic information and clinical information; the first encryption occurs in NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS), and the second in SAIL. If the NHS number is not supplied in the data extract, then matching methods are applied; please refer to ALF_MTCH_PCT.

SYSTEM_ID_E

This is the sex (gender) of person, employee or patient. Can potentially assist in correct identification of gender-specific primary cancer sites. Can potentially be different from gender identity as stated/assigned at birth.

GNDR_CD

The date of the Monday that occurs prior, or on, the actual date of birth. Access to this data item is limited, however, as it can be used to calculate age at specific events. Possible errors in extract may include patients with events and event dates before WOB.

The code for the 2001 Local Super Output Area [LSOA] of residence; this is a code created and maintained by Office for National Statistics. Not to be confused with LSOA name or other LSOA fields.

LSOA_2001_CD

Anonymised Linked Field Match Percentage. This number is a match % score from probabalistic matching, when joining together anonymised data. This linkage process consists of matching against the Welsh Demographic Service by NHS number, where a valid number exists, and where there is no valid number then matching is attempted using first name, surname, date of birth, and postcode. This is an artificial score with no real-world meaning; i.e. a match of .99 does not mean there is a 99% chance the match is correct. This number is assigned when deriving the Encrypted Anonymised Linking Field.

ALF_MTCH_PCT

Anonymised Linked Field Status Code. This is assigned when deriving the Encrypted Anonymised Linking Field.

B3- A small amount of Welsh-medium learning e.g. use of Welsh limited to verbal communication or to a minor part of the learning activity. English only assessment. This code can be used to record situations where some Welsh is used during the learning. Minimum use of incidental Welsh is not sufficient for it to be recorded. There needs to be Welsh language interaction between assessor/lecturer/teacher and learner for it to be a meaningful use of the language. B2 - A significant amount of Welsh-medium learning e.g. both verbal and written Welsh used in many, but not all, parts of the learning activity. Assessment mainly in English but some may also be in Welsh. Result of award. The value recorded in AW12 should always be clear. Where the value has ambiguity, the singleletter grade outcome will be assumed when calculating performance measures. For example, if a record is recorded as &ldquo;D&rdquo; this can be interpreted as a &ldquo;D&rdquo; grade, or &ldquo;Distinction&rdquo;, therefore we will use the &ldquo;D&rdquo; grade to measure performance. Qualifications with a &ldquo;Distinction&rdquo; outcome should be recorded as DIST to avoid this ambiguity. Where a grade cannot accurately be determined from the value provided in AW12, or where the grade provided does not fit the grade profile of the qualification according to the Qualifications in Wales (QiW) database, the award record will be treated as a failure in the calculation of performance measures.
